Will SleepVance assist me normalise my sleep cycle?

The levels of several hormones fluctuate according to the light and dark cycle and are also affected by sleep, eating habits, and general behaviour. The regulation and metabolism of several hormones are influenced by interactions between the effects of sleep and the natural circadian system; growth hormone, melatonin, cortisol, leptin, and ghrelin levels are highly correlated with sleep and circadian rhythmicity. There are also endogenous circadian mechanisms that serve to regulate glucose metabolism and similar rhythms pertaining to lipid metabolism, regulated through the actions of various clock genes. Sleep disturbance, which negatively impacts hormonal rhythms and metabolism, is also associated with obesity, insulin insensitivity, diabetes, hormonal imbalance, and appetite dysregulation. Circadian disruption, typically induced by shift work, may negatively impact health due to impaired glucose and lipid homeostasis, reversed melatonin and cortisol rhythms, and loss of clock gene rhythmicity.

What role does SleepVance play in the prevention of obesity, stress, metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance and other related disorders?

Accumulating evidence from both epidemiologic studies and well-controlled laboratory studies indicates that chronic partial sleep loss may increase the risk of obesity and weight gain. Recent studies in both adults and children have shown that sleep restriction results in metabolic and endocrine alterations, including decreased glucose tolerance, decreased insulin sensitivity, increased evening concentrations of cortisol, increased levels of ghrelin, decreased levels of leptin and increased hunger and appetite. Altogether, the evidence points to a possible role of decreased sleep duration in the current epidemic of obesity. Bedtime extension in short sleepers should be explored as a novel behavioural intervention that may prevent weight gain or facilitate weight loss. Avoiding sleep deprivation may help to prevent the development of obesity, particularly in children.

Research has shown that poor sleep may contribute to worse outcomes in people with diabetes. Poor sleep quality in people with diabetes is closely associated with bad control of blood glucose levels. Generally, people who have a hard time controlling their blood glucose levels have a greater risk of complications, have a reduced quality of life, and consequently a reduced life expectancy.

Can I take SleepVance if I am on blood thinning medication?

Yes, you can.  If you are on medicines such as warfarin to prevent blood clots, SleepVance may however increase bleeding potential and regular blood monitoring is therefore recommended. We recommend that you consult your Doctor or Pharmacist if you are on any blood thinning medication.
