The Medical Nutritional Institute was founded in 2002 by a doctor and a pharmacist who shared a similar objective, namely to bridge the gap between conventional and natural medication. In the world of ethics and evidence-based science, conventional medicine has earned respect through its long history of peer reviewed scientific validation. Natural medication on the other hand, is still largely unregulated and frequently tarnished by unsubstantiated marketing claims lacking convincing scientific proof, poor product quality and sometimes even severe side-effects.
Their ambition was to develop a range of non-prescription medication that could be classified as ‘complementary’ according to the specifications of medicine regulatory boards, but with sufficient scientific evidence of efficacy and quality to withstand the scrutiny and scepticism of their colleagues in the mainstream medical and pharmaceutical world.
Through a continuous process of research, investigation and improvement, the Medical Nutritional Institute has grown from strength to strength and has since become a leading innovator in the development of new complementary medication and weight-loss programmes in South Africa.
