What’s in your lunch box?

Do you have a lunch box?

Take control of your lunch!

We would not dream of sending our children to school without a healthy lunch box.  Not for fear of the child welfare getting their hands on us but for fear that our children are not eating a balanced lunch at school every day.  They need the good, wholesome lunch for energy.  They need the nutrients for mental vitality – heaven forbid your child is not one of the cleverest in the class.  My child comes home everyday and tells me what healthy and interesting snack “Johnny” had in his lunch box.  I make sure I have it for him the next day in his lunch box, what if “Johnny’s” mom knows something about this snack that I do not. I want the best for my child, I control his or her lunchbox.

But what do I do for myself? Nothing? Deliver myelf to the mercy of the fast food indusry?

We also need a wholesome lunch for energy at work.  Mental Vitality?  If we do not feed our brain the correct nutrients how can we be the most successful person in out department.

Please make sure that you are not just “ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL.”

SO…. WHAT'S IN YOUR LUNCH BOX?

How low blood sugar fools you!

Low blood sugar brings even the bravest among us to our knees.
Pangs of hunger bringing you to your knees? No, you are not really hungry, it’s low blood sugar that’s fooling you.
This is how it works: If a large amount of glucose suddenly enters your system, a large amount of insulin is released to ensure that all glucose molecules are rapidly removed from the bloodstream. Blood insulin levels, however, do not immediately adjust to lowering blood sugar levels, (as the duration of insulin’s action continues for a while longer), even after glucose levels have been normalised. This causes blood sugar levels to drop below normal.

Brain cells contain no energy stores and are totally dependent on a continuous supply of energy (in the form of glucose) from the bloodstream. When low blood sugar sets in, the first symptoms therefore occur in your head. As your neurons begin to misfire, lack of concentration, tiredness and drowsiness set in. Adrenaline, released in response by the adrenal glands, makes you irritable and short tempered. Your knees go wobbly and your brain turns to mush. In order to save your life, a strong primordial urge to eat takes control of your body. Can anybody be blamed for losing control?

The LightHouse programme teaches you about controlling your blood sugar largely through your diet: the importance of low glycaemic food, understanding food labels and managing insulin resistance. It empowers you to take control of your body!

Don’t be fooled by low blood sugar. Let Lighthouse help you outsmart the trickery of low blood sugar.
