What does Low GI mean? Let us start by breaking up the phrase”glycemic index”. “gly” in medical terms stands for glucose. “emic” in medical terms stands for blood. “index” means an indicator of sorts. The glycemic index is a “blood glucose indicator” – It gives us an indication of the rate at which carbohydrate – rich foods affect blood glucose levels, after they have been eaten. When choosing food always try to give preference to Lower GI breads and cereals and remember to always make up the bulk of your meal with low GI vegetables so that it fills half of your plate.
